We're inviting you to take part in a user survey to help us better understand and plan for the needs of user groups at Mahoneys Reserve.

We appreciate your time in reviewing the background information below and completing this 15-minute survey.

Background

Council is developing a master plan for Mahoneys Reserve to guide improvements over the next 15 years. This plan will take a broad look at what needs to be renewed or upgraded, including the potential redevelopment of the pavilion. Careful consideration will be given to the pavilion’s location, size, and design to enhance its use, safety, and integration with the surrounding area. Construction is not expected to begin before mid-2027, depending on funding. Once developed, the draft master plan will be reviewed by Council and shared with the community for further feedback, in addition to this user survey.

At the same time, Council is preparing an Indoor Sports Plan, a 15-year strategy based on research and data. This plan will help guide the development of indoor sports facilities to ensure they are well-designed, cost-effective, and meet the community’s evolving needs.

Local sports facilities are supported by Councils, schools, and private organisations, working together to promote health, community engagement, and economic growth. Research suggests that multi-sport hubs provide the best long-term value, offering greater flexibility and better use of resources compared to single-use courts.

Participation in table tennis and badminton has grown a lot recently, so Council is considering the feasibility of a regional-level table tennis facility. This new facility will need to be in a strategic location, with enough parking, good public transport access, and room to grow in the future.

Because of this, Council may move away from single indoor sports courts, like the one currently at Mahoneys Reserve Pavilion. However, Council is committed to making sure that users of table tennis, badminton, and carpet bowling still have access to fit for purpose facilities in other locations during this transition.

Take the survey

To help with the transition, a survey has been created to gather feedback from the clubs affected, so Council can help source suitable venues that meet the user groups’ needs.
