Why does the pavilion need to be redeveloped?

Mirrabooka Reserve Pavilion was built in 2003. However, the pavilion has reached the end of its life and is currently operating above capacity, serving six soccer pitches and three cricket ovals.

The project would allow for more sporting and community use of both the pavilion and the wider reserve. It would help increase women’s participation in sport as the current changerooms don’t support this well. The community would also be able to use the pavilion for events, group meetings and more.

The $7 million redevelopment is being funded with $2 million from the Commonwealth Government, $3 million from the Victorian Government and $2 million from Council. Funding for the redevelopment was successfully advocated for by the sporting clubs.

What features are proposed for the new pavilion?

The pavilion is set to undergo a $7 million redevelopment that is proposed to include:

    • Unisex changerooms
    • Umpire rooms
    • Accessibility amenities
    • First aid room
    • Community meeting room
    • Social / multipurpose room
    • Kitchen
    • Storage areas

Will there be any loss of trees?

At this stage, we have prepared a draft concept plan for the pavilion redevelopment and would need to do further planning to understand the full impact of the new building. We anticipate no loss of significant trees. If any trees were to be removed, they will be offset with tree planting in the area.

    When would construction start?

The proposed timeline for the pavilion redevelopment is:

    • Concept design – completed by June 2024
    • Detailed design and development approvals – July 2024 until April 2025
    • Tender – Mid 2025
    • Construction – late 2025
    • Completion – end 2026

This timeline may be subject to change due to factors that may not be within our control.
