Background information
We asked the community to have their say on improvement works at Vermont Recreation Reserve.
The project includes pavilion improvements, lighting upgrades and oval reconstruction.
Pavilion improvements
The current pavilion would be renovated and extended, with works proposed to include:
- Two unisex changerooms and amenities, with the flexibility to expand to four, aligning with AFL guidelines,
- Umpire changerooms,
- An accessible toilet,
- Storage space,
- Minor upgrades to existing facility to ensure compliance with current code standards.
Lighting upgrade
The existing lighting poles would be retrofitted with LED lighting.
Oval reconstruction (completed)
The ground works are recently completed. The project involved a full renewal of the field including installation of a new irrigation system, improved field drainage and a perimeter path.
Project benefits
The project would have benefits for the sporting club and community:
- The new changerooms would help increase women’s participation in sport as the current changerooms don’t adequately support this.
- Accessibility would be improved with new external and internal accessible toilets.
- The lighting upgrade would be more energy efficient and better control light spill.
- The oval reconstruction will mean the oval can sustain more hours of play, helping Council address the growth in demand for sporting facilities.
The project is jointly funded by Council and the State Government.
