Programs and Education at Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct

Consultation has concluded

Feedback on Programs and Education at Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct closed on 17 August 2021.

Whitehorse City Council’s redevelopment of the Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct located on Springvale Road, Forest Hill began in May. With construction in progress, the site continues to be transformed into a vibrant, multi-use community precinct and will include:

• Refurbishment of the homestead (including the creation of two public meeting rooms);

• Replanting the apple orchard from successfully grafted stock;

• Installing a new ‘packing shed’ to host educational programs;

• Landscaping, including front and rear gardens, the creation of a nature play area and an educational kitchen garden;

• A self-guided heritage walk;

• Accessible parking, pathway and lighting upgrades and installation of bicycle parking hoops.

The Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct redevelopment responds specifically to Council Plan Strategic Objectives by providing:

• A range of programs and initiatives to deliver and support an inclusive community;
• A multipurpose community facility providing opportunities for education, exercise, reflection and play;
• Quality open space that has historical significance, self-led and active recreational opportunities, and demonstrated best practice in Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD);
• Opportunities for people to learn how to live sustainably, reducing living costs and growing food.

As a healthy living and sustainability hub, Council is seeking community consultation regarding future programs to be offered at Strathdon. We are also looking to our community for feedback around the creation and care of a kitchen garden for educational purposes.

This survey will be open until 17 August 2021.
