Sorry Day Flag Raising Ceremony

The City of Whitehorse will show its support for Reconciliation with Whitehorse City Council Mayor Councillor Denise Massoud raising the Aboriginal flag at the Council offices and a Wurundjeri Elder will perform a Welcome to Country.

Time: 10.00am - 12.00pm
Where: Nangnak Gardens Civic Centre

The flag raising and smoking ceremony will be from 10am to 11am, and there will be a screening of the Earth Wisdom Film from 11am to 12pm, where you can learn from elders from Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung, Gunai and Yuin Nations, in particular.

National Sorry Day recognises the impact of Australian historical policies, practices and attitudes on First Nations people. Council’s flag raising ceremony will commemorate past injustices and honour the ongoing survival of the world’s oldest living culture.

National Sorry Day is the start of Reconciliation Week, which runs annually from 27 May to 3 June.
