National Sorry Day recognises the impact of Australian historical policies, practices and attitudes on First Nations people. Council’s flag raising ceremony will commemorate past injustices and honour the ongoing survival of the world’s oldest living culture.
The Whitehorse Sorry Day Flag Raising Ceremony, demonstrates Councils acknowledgement of past injustices and support for Reconciliation. In the spirit of Reconciliation the event is lead by a Wurundjeri Elder and Councillor.
National Sorry Day is the start of Reconciliation Week, which runs annually from 27 May to 3 June. This years Reconciliaiton Week theme is Bridging Now to Next, art provides a perfect opportunity to explore cultures and histories across time. As part of this event, people attending are encouraged to stay to open the Nocturnal Animals Sculpture, view the First People's artwork on display at The Round and learn more about Council's First Peoples art collection.
