Following the community engagement process, Council has completed the concept design for the play space renewal at Halligan.

Please view the concept images.

Construction of the play space is scheduled to commence in April 2026.

For any queries regarding this play space renewal, please contact Council’s Landscape Architect, Blake Barnes via email at play@whitehorse.vic.gov.au

The proposed play space renewal at Hurter-Finch Reserve includes a combination unit with rock climbing wall, play panels, two slides, monkey bars and a fireman’s pole and individual equipment including a two-way springer, a junior and adult swing set, a basket swing, and a climbing net.

This is a concept plan only and may be subject to change.

Background

Hurter-Finch Reserve is located at 33 Dobell St, Blackburn South. In September 2025, we asked the community to share their ideas to help inform the upgrade of the play space at Hurter-Finch Reserve. We received 43 submissions through the Your Say survey as part of the first stage of community engagement.

Feedback showed that the most valued features of the existing playground are the junior and adult swings, slide, climbing elements and monkey bars. The community would like to see these popular elements included in the new design.

The most supported ideas to include in the new playground were a rope climbing structure, basket swing, rock climbing wall and spinner.

The community also shared ideas for additional features like bins, a picnic table, shelter and adult fitness equipment. These could not be included due to the project scope and budget.

Please note: this is a concept plan only and may be subject to change. It is proposed that this will be built by the end of June 2026, weather permitting.
