Project background
The former Daniel Robertson Brickworks site, located at 56–74 Station Street, Nunawading, is undergoing a major mixed-use redevelopment. Stage 1 of the redevelopment is currently underway. It includes the construction of 173 dwellings, retention of the heritage chimney within an open space reserve, and the construction of roads and a public park fronting Station Street.
Stage 2 will focus on the 7,384 sqm portion in the north-eastern corner of the site, encompassing all land within the mixed-use zone. This stage is designed to complement Stage 1 and integrate with the surrounding community and activity centre.
The stage 2 draft Development Plan has been prepared by the landowner, Norcal Station Developments Pty Ltd, in accordance with the requirements of Development Plan Overlay Schedule 7 (DPO7) of the Whitehorse Planning Scheme.
Project purpose
The stage 2 Development Plan provides a framework for the mixed-use redevelopment of the former Daniel Robertson Brickworks site, within the Nunawading/MegaMile Activity Centre.
Key elements of the plan include:
- Approximately 121 apartments of varying sizes and layouts
- 3,750 sqm of public areas
- 4,737 sqm of retail/commercial floor space
- 14,985 sqm of basement area accommodating:
- Car parking for 395 vehicles
- Bicycle parking
- Waste storage and collection
- Building services
- Pedestrian and bicycle links through the site
- Landscape areas and a central green promenade
- Improved streetscape interfaces and street plantings
The Development Plan establishes a framework for the future use and design of the site, with detailed aspects of buildings, landscaping, and public spaces to be addressed in later planning applications. Endorsement of the Development Plan will unlock the next phase of the project, with more detailed design matters to be addressed through a subsequent planning permit application.
