On 24 November 2025, Council resolved to start scoping a Chinese Community and Cultural Centre in the Box Hill precinct.
We took this important step in response to feedback from residents and community organisations who see great value in having a dedicated space that celebrates culture, connection, identity and community life.
Right now, the Centre is just an idea – a concept – which Council is committed to exploring with our community.
We hope to partner with the State Government, Federal Government and other stakeholders to deliver this piece of infrastructure.

February 2026
On Thursday 5 February, 2026, Council held a community stakeholder meeting at Box Hill Town Hall. About 70 members of the community attended to provide their ideas and aspirations about a concept of a Chinese Community and Cultural Centre in the Box Hill precinct.
Council heard many points of view and ideas around location, design, purpose, operations and governance.
Council will further consider this concept at a Council Meeting in March 2026.
