Britannia Mall is located between Whitehorse Road and Enterprise Way in Mitcham. We’re proposing to install a permanent shelter across the open section of Britannia Mall, Mitcham, to support local trading and make Britannia Mall more welcoming and comfortable year-round.
The shelter would provide weather protection, enable outdoor dining in all seasons, create a versatile space for community gatherings and encourage outdoor activity supporting business and customers.
Currently, the open-air design of Britannia Mall limits usability during extreme heat, rain and colder months.
The shelter is a long-term investment and could:
- Support customers spending longer in Britannia Mall
- Enable year-round outdoor dining
- Strengthen the precinct as a community gathering place
- Boost local economy
- Support cultural activities and activation
- Enable Council-led engagement and events in all weather
- Deliver a high-quality public asset for long-term use
Mitcham is a growing and diverse precinct, with strong public transport and more than 80 multicultural businesses contributing to its vibrancy. This project reflects Council’s long-term commitment to placemaking, economic development and creating inclusive public spaces.
This project is supported by the Victorian Government through Business Victoria.
