Billabong Park is located on Weeden Drive in Vermont South.
Council is planning to upgrade the sports field lighting at Billabong Park to provide 300 Lux LED illumination for the southern baseball field, meeting the required standards for baseball training. The system will be designed to allow future enhancement to 500 Lux, in line with competition-level lighting standards.
Council is exploring funding opportunities for this project through the Victorian Government’s Local Sporting Infrastructure Fund which will support an upgrade to 500 lux as part of this project.
The proposed works will deliver high-quality, energy-efficient lighting that complies with current sporting requirements, while being adaptable for future competition or event needs. It will also include on-demand lighting available to the community in the mornings and evenings when not in use by clubs all year round.
At Council’s meeting on 22 September 2025, Council endorsed the Billabong Park Master Plan which recommended an upgrade sports lighting to 300 lux at the southern baseball diamond, as well as future proofing the lighting (500 lux) to support nighttime competition.
