The land is part of a former drainage and sewerage reserve which was subdivided and acquired by Council in 2007 under Section 24A of the Subdivision Act 1988 as part of a process to remove the land’s reserve status. Having a width of only 4.57 metres and being landlocked with no direct legal access to a public road, the narrow strip of land on its own does not hold any recreational or Council development potential and is not considered to be a useable community space.

Council is proposing that the best and most practical use of the land is to sell it the adjacent owner so that it can be formally incorporated into their property. Council could then use the proceeds from the sale for more effective community benefits.

The land is narrow, landlocked and is currently fenced into an adjacent owner’s property. This means that the only practical purchaser of the land is the owner of the adjacent property, and it is therefore proposed that the land be sold to that owner by private treaty.

The sale price of the land would be at the current market rate, in line with a valuation held by Council at the time of sale.

A Notice of Intention to Sell Council Land means Council is proposing to sell the land but hasn’t yet formally decided to do so. Following consideration of any submissions received during the consultation period, Council may decide to sell the land or not to sell the land.
